How to Be the CEO of Yourself
Embracing the CEO Me Mindset
When I talk to real estate agents who have been in the business for three to five years or even longer, I often notice a common trend. They've watched countless YouTube videos, attended numerous seminars and workshops, and surrounded themselves with great mentors. While this is fantastic, it can lead to a phenomenon I call being "easily influenced."
I believe in something I call "CEO Me." Essentially, this means you are the CEO of yourself. Every time you hear advice—whether it's from me, a podcast, a seminar, or anywhere else—consider it information. This information is there to help you make better decisions in your business. As the CEO of yourself, you should avoid doing everything others tell you.
Navigating Information Overload
In the past, when I was coaching agents, I sometimes had to ban them from attending more training sessions because they would change everything they were doing every time they learned something new. Think of it like golfing: you don't rebuild your swing every three months. Similarly, you shouldn't constantly overhaul your real estate strategies.
Your business should operate in a way that reflects who you are as a person. Clients choose you because of your unique qualities and approach. So, when you make changes in your business, ensure they align with your identity, not just because a high performer on a podcast suggested it.
Tailoring Your Approach
For instance, your business might heavily rely on referrals, or perhaps you're deeply connected to local clubs. I know agents who make 50 calls a day to connect with people, while others are known in their communities and get leads through their reputation and trustworthiness.
We often have an internal conflict, thinking, "This is what I should be doing," but the reality is you should be doing what feels right for you. Take in the information, and then decide how to integrate it into your business.
